Yan Maoyao (1904— 1995) was originally named Yan Kuiyao, who was born in Jiaxian County, Shaanxi Province. 1924 Graduated from the first phase of Huangpu Military Academy. He used to be the battalion commander of the National Third Army Cavalry Corps. 1926 joined China. 1927 Participated in the Qingjian Uprising in Northern Shaanxi. He used to be the deputy head and head of the guard regiment of the Northwest Army Yang Hucheng. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, he served as Chief of Staff of the Eighth Route Army General Command, Director of the General Staff Office, Director of the Military and Political Office, and Chief of Staff of the Hebei-Shandong-Henan Military Region. During the War of Liberation, he served as director of the First Military Commission, deputy commander and chief of staff of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Joint Defense Army, deputy commander and chief of staff of the fourth column of the Northwest Field Army, chief of staff of the Northwest Field Army and chief of staff of the First Field Army. He is a deputy to the First National People's Congress, the Fifth Standing Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Eighth National Congress. He was elected as a member of the Central Advisory Committee at the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
