Major General Zhao Jingmin served as translator, secretary, assistant military attache and military attache of China's embassies in Syrian, Belgian and Tunisia successively. He used to be a senior staff officer of the Peacekeeping Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense; Participated in three United Nations peacekeeping operations and served as the director of the liaison office of the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission in Kuwait; The military observer and force commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) is the first China soldier to serve as the senior commander of the United Nations peacekeeping force. After his departure, the Secretary-General of the United Nations called him "exemplary in performing his duties" in his report to the Security Council. Major-General Zhao Jingmin has held many positions in the domestic combat forces, and is currently the senior staff officer of the Office of Peacekeeping Affairs of the Ministry of National Defense. After 37 years in office, Zhao Jingmin spent more than half of his time working in an open multilateral environment. On September 17, 2007, he officially became the military commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, becoming the first China soldier to be the senior commander of the United Nations peacekeeping force.
On June 20 1212, the School of Foreign Languages of Shanxi University held the appointment ceremony of Major General Zhao Jingmin as a visiting professor.
