Zizhuyuan Park is located outside Xizhimen, on the west side of Beijing Zoo. This used to be a water storage lake. As early as the third century A.D., it was the birthplace of the Gaoliang River and one of the important water sources in Yanjing. When Guo Shoujing, a water conservancy engineer in Yuan Dynasty dug Tonghui River, he built Guangyuan Gate here to regulate the water volume of the long river, Tonghui River and Jishuitan. Zizhuyuan Temple (Manjuji Xiadian) was built on the bank of Hubei during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, hence the name Zizhuyuan. During the Qing dynasty, there were palaces and docks here, and the royal family passed the Summer Palace by boat.
