A Brief Introduction to the Author of Watching Snow on the Lake Pavilion
Zhang Dai (1597— 1679) was born in Yin Shan (now Shaoxing, Zhejiang). Overseas Chinese live in Hangzhou. His family has been an outstanding official since his great-grandfather. In his early years, he lived a noble life of good horses, new clothes and delicious food, fighting cocks and letting eagles fly, and playing the piano and reciting poems. I like to travel, I am familiar with music and drama, and I have never been an official in my life. After Ming Taizu's death, he took refuge in Shanxi Mountain, Zhejiang Province, and engaged in writing. He is the author of Shi Kui Shu, Shi Que, Tao An Meng Yi, Dream of West Lake, Ji of Yuen Long, Kuaiyuan Ancient Road, Night Sailing Boat, etc. In his prose, he recalled many trivial things about his personal experience. At the same time, it is also an excellent comment on the social and cultural customs of the late Ming Dynasty. Among them, it shows nostalgia for the hometown and also shows a lot of sadness. Delicate and vivid description, beautiful and fresh writing, very poetic. It is unique in the essays of the late Ming Dynasty (the essence of famous works of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, p. 583).

Zhang Dai's essays have a wide range of topics, including scenic spots, world customs, opera skills, antique toys and so on. These works not only recorded his actual life experience, but also reflected some aspects of his life in the late Ming Dynasty, and their contents were relatively substantial.
