The administrative level of the autonomous region belongs to the provincial and ministerial level. China has a vast territory and a large population, and there are 56 ethnic groups in China. In some areas, ethnic minorities live together and have distinctive national characteristics. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), People's Republic of China (PRC) (China) followed the provincial system of the Yuan Dynasty, and established the areas under the jurisdiction of the central government as provincial units. Considering the particularity of some ethnic minority areas, these provincial and ministerial administrative regions are set up as ethnic autonomous areas.
