Eyewitness records of ball lightning
1773 After hearing a loud thunder, two clergymen saw a luminous ball the size of a football shining in the fireplace. The ball immediately exploded and made a loud noise.

In the 1940s, in a small town in France, three soldiers were killed by lightning while sheltering from the rain under a bodhi tree. But they stood behind them as if nothing had happened. After the thunderstorm, pedestrians talked to them and didn't respond. When pedestrians contacted, three bodies suddenly fell to the ground and turned into a pile of ashes.

1956 At noon in the summer, on a collective farm in the Soviet Union, two children took shelter from the rain in the cowshed. Suddenly, an orange fireball rolled under the poplar tree in front of the house and came at them. A child kicked it, and with a bang, the fireball exploded. 12 cows in the cowshed killed 1 1, and the child was knocked to the ground, but was not injured. Afterwards, people realized that this fireball was a rare spherical lightning.

A strange thing happened in a small town in the United States: a housewife came home from the market and opened the refrigerator to see that all the raw ducks and raw meat she put in had turned into cooked food. Scientists didn't know until they studied it that it was ball lightning that turned the refrigerator into an electric stove. Strangely, the refrigerator was not damaged!

198 1 One day in June, a Soviet airliner was struck by spherical lightning near the Black Sea. A big fireball broke into the cockpit and caused an explosion. A few seconds later, it passed through the sealed metal bulkhead and appeared in the passenger's cockpit. After a dramatic performance, it left the plane and made almost no noise. After inspection, there is a hole in the metal wall of the nose and tail, but the inner wall is intact.

In Oregon, USA, a ball lightning came and went like the wind. First, it left a hole the size of a basketball on the screen door, and then it went straight to the basement, mercilessly destroying an old dryer. The experience of a Russian teacher is even more terrible. A ball lightning with a diameter of 80 cm bounced over his head and disappeared after jumping for more than 20 times. In addition, the former Soviet Union also reported that a ball lightning flew into a large pot filled with water, and the water immediately boiled, and the ball lightning rolled in the pot for 10 minutes before it went out. Another time, a lightning ball the size of a football rolled and jumped in the street. When it touched the ground, it actually blew out some pits half a meter deep and with a diameter of 1 meter. Finally, with a bang, the fireball went underground.

1962, Xia, People's Liberation Army Hospital, Jinan, Shandong, China. Just after the heavy rain, Chai Shudi, an operating room nurse, opened the window to get some air. Suddenly, a fireball appeared outside the window, flew into the room, smashed the chandelier on the roof, flew into the corridor, and exploded in front of the switch, causing power failure and no casualties.

/kloc-in the summer of 0/972, it took place in the bungalow of Dongcun (the name of the family residential area at that time) of Nanjing East China Institute of Engineering (formerly the Artillery Engineering Department of Harbin Military Region, now Nanjing University of Science and Technology). When it was raining cats and dogs, my father and I saw a huge orange-red spherical lightning through the window at the same time, with a diameter of about 60cm to 70cm. This ball lightning rolled across from us, along the roof and over our heads, making an extremely shocking rumble. Just as it rolled over the roof above us, the incandescent lamp at the same position on the roof turned into a ball of fire and fell into the concrete floor, leaving a burnt circular black mark on the concrete floor, which diverged from the middle to all directions and from deep to shallow. It lasted about four minutes from when we saw it to when it disappeared. Its rolling speed is equivalent to the speed of a person walking. At that time, my father was sitting in a chair near the vertical point under the light, and I stood 50cm behind. So, everyone was surprised out in a cold sweat. My father said at that time that if you sat under the light, you would die.

1997 July 14 In the afternoon, a child was walking on the road in Pei County, northern China. Suddenly, a ball of lightning fell from the sky and fell vertically on the child, and the neighbor next to it let the child escape. After running a few steps, the fireball exploded, but fortunately there were no casualties.

1March 999 16 in the afternoon, China, Zaoyang City, northern Hubei Province, suddenly thundered frequently, causing 9 deaths and more than 20 injuries on the spot. According to witnesses, red light appeared at the scene of lightning strike, which is the characteristic of spherical lightning.

Around 2000, in Sui County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province, on rainy days, I witnessed spherical lightning with a diameter of about 1.5 ~ 20 cm, which was probably white. It floated near the power line about three meters above the ground, moved slowly for more than a minute, and then disappeared without causing any damage.

On August 20, 2002, around 2 1, four children in Yubei, Chongqing enjoyed the cool air on the roof, and the weather was sultry. Suddenly, a flash of lightning fell from the sky and struck 50 meters away from the children, forming a huge white sphere. Four children were temporarily blind, and then it rained cats and dogs. The four children were afraid and hid in the broken house for two hours.

On the evening of August 2 1 2007, there was lightning and thunder on Chigang Road, Haizhu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China, and a "ball of lightning" fell from the sky, which made witnesses stunned. According to eyewitness's recollection, lightning was like a big fireball, emitting strong blue-green light and damaging electrical appliances in many residents' homes.

On a summer evening around 2008, an orange ball the size of a football fell into a farmer's house in Shunyi District, Beijing. Before the witness could react, the ball exploded about two meters from the ground, and suddenly there was a loud noise. The ball exploded in an instant, emitting arc-shaped light around it, which was extremely bright. After a few seconds, the ball disappeared, and the witness looked at the ground where the explosion happened as if it had never happened.

One afternoon in June 2009, when there was a thunderstorm in Zoucheng City, central Shandong Province, a spherical lightning explosion occurred in No.4 Middle School, with a loud noise and a red light.

On the morning of August 4, 2009, a street-facing house built by the villagers in South Shijiazhuang Village, Xizhaotong Town, Shijiazhuang City was struck by lightning and suddenly collapsed. According to three witnesses at the scene, at about 9: 00 15, I suddenly heard a thunder, only to see a dazzling fireball with a diameter of about one meter hit the northwest corner of the house. In an instant, the houses collapsed from north to south in turn, burying the people sheltering from the rain in the ruins. And that fireball is the characteristic of spherical lightning.

Noise shock

According to Wang Liguo, a villager from Huzhangzhuang Village, after the rainstorm on August 7, 2065+03 15, she and two neighbors were sitting under their eaves chatting at around 17, when she suddenly heard a loud noise overhead, which was deafening. "At that time, my eyes were white, my ears could not hear anything, and then there was black smoke." Wang Liguo said that the three of them instinctively ran south along the corridor. After a few steps, she suddenly remembered that her 10-year-old daughter was still sleeping at home, so she turned her head and ran home regardless of her inner fears. Pushing open the door desperately, I saw my daughter standing in the yard, pale. She grabbed her daughter and ran out again. Wang Liguo rushed to the door of a distant neighbor and said that she looked back at the roof of her house, but found nothing.

Multiple burns

On August 13 and 10, the reporter saw under the eaves of Wang Li's country that the leaves beside the eaves had tiny burnt marks, black marks appeared at the corners of the houses, the tiles on the eaves partially cracked and fell off, and the ground was covered with broken bricks.

Lee Hyo Ri (pseudonym), a villager who was also at the scene of the incident, told the reporter that after the loud noise, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her back. Instinctively, she ran to the south reluctantly. After running to a place she thought was safe, she touched her back under her neck and found blood on her hands, so she went to the village doctor for examination. After the doctor checked, he told her that she had a back burn. But in the next few days, she had tinnitus and went to the hospital to check her health.

The reporter checked that there were four or five scabs on Lee Hyo Ri's back. Two of them are large, one is oval, and the other is made up of many small scars, which look like "claw" marks. On August 7, 20 13, around 15, Handan was suddenly as white as night, and it was stormy for an hour. About an hour after the storm ended, a deafening noise broke the peace of a small village in Wujiang Township, Yongnian County. Many witnesses said that before the loud noise, they saw an unknown object falling, which looked like a "red ball". Afterwards, it was found that many villagers' home appliances were damaged to varying degrees by unidentified objects. Experts have learned that this "red ball" should be a spherical mine with extremely low frequency.

20 13 August 12, stormy night. Zhang Laohan's home in Wulaiyi Village, wuqiao county City, Hebei Province was suddenly attacked by "ball lightning", and three adobe houses were burned down, and Zhang Laohan and his wife died unfortunately. On August 23rd, experts from Cangzhou Meteorological Bureau came to wuqiao county to preach lightning protection knowledge to local villagers.

On August 3, 2065438, the reporter visited many villagers in the village. Witnesses said that at that time, only a red ball like a "lantern" fell like a "sugar gourd", and then there was a loud noise, which was deafening.

After the noise, hundreds of villagers went to the scene to watch. At that time, there were many discussions in the village. Some villagers speculate that the red balls such as "lanterns" are UFOs driven by alien life, others speculate that the back scars of the injured are scratched by the legendary "dragon", and some villagers speculate that lightning is caused by noise such as thunder.

Wang Liguo said that most of the glass in her house was broken in the accident, and all household appliances were destroyed, including air conditioners, televisions, computers and water pumps for drinking water. Many villagers' household appliances in the vicinity have also been damaged to varying degrees.

Rare spherical ore

Yang Meifang, an expert from the Lightning Protection Center of Handan Meteorological Bureau, said that what the villagers in Huzhangzhuang village saw was a strange lightning phenomenon during a strong thunderstorm, which was spherical in shape and called spherical lightning, commonly known as "rolling lightning", with extremely low frequency.

According to reports, the diameter of spherical mines is generally 10 cm to 20 cm, which usually lasts only a few seconds or as long as 1 minute to 2 minutes. Amazingly, it can move independently and slowly in the air. In addition to the common orange, there will be blue, bright white, and some will be inlaid with dark green rings.

As for why spherical lightning appeared after the rain stopped in this incident, Yang Meifang explained that although the rain had stopped at that time, the phenomenon of clouds and thunder continued, so the phenomenon of spherical lightning could not be ruled out. Relevant data show that spherical lightning is still a strange natural phenomenon that people can't explain. The scientific community once thought that spherical lightning did not exist, and it was not recognized as true until the end of last century.

Because spherical lightning is rare, it is very difficult to study and it is still a mystery in nature. But what is certain is that this is a real physical phenomenon, and it is by no means an energy cannon in science fiction or comics. 20 14 At 9 o'clock on August 5th, Yan, who was working in a four-story office of Xinjiang Water Conservancy and Soil Conservation Bureau in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, heard the sound of rain outside the window, and prepared to leave the office and close the window in the corridor. Standing next to the window on the third floor, Yan saw the thunder and lightning in the sky, and it was raining harder and harder outside. In an instant, a light flashed into the corridor. Yan recalled, "A huge fireball, the color of which is sunset red, broke into the open plastic-steel window without protective bars, which was extremely fast, exploded instantly and then disappeared." This "fireball" is about 40 cm in diameter. With a loud noise, it exploded instantly, causing damage to five computers. Angelababy, a meteorological lightning protection engineer from Xinjiang Meteorological Bureau, analyzed that the fireball was an unusual "spherical lightning". On that day, due to the influence of the subtropical high moving eastward, there was a thunderstorm in Xinjiang, and the precipitation lasted about 1 hour.
