Resume of eunuch Zhao Chang
As we all know, Yong Zhengdi's succession has always been a controversial and mysterious issue in history of qing dynasty, especially on the night of Emperor Kangxi's death, Yongzheng immediately executed the eunuch who had worked for Kangxi for 60 years, which was even more puzzling. Ma Guoxian, an Italian missionary and painter of Kangxi Empire, wrote his memoir Thirteen Years of Qing Dynasty: Memoirs of Ma Guoxian in China after returning to China. He wrote that on the night of Kangxi's death, he lived in Changchun Garden and heard a terrible cry. Yin Zhen ascended the throne and issued an order that shocked the whole country. Zhao Chang was arrested, executed, his property confiscated and his children enslaved. This is indeed a strange thing.

It is said that Yongzheng had to deal with the people who competed with him for the throne first, but he killed the eunuch whom Kangxi trusted first. Why on earth did this happen? According to historical records, there were two eunuchs during the reign of Kangxi. One is Liang Jiugong, who died in the late Kangxi period, and the other is Zhao Chang, who was executed by Yongzheng in Kangxi that night. Zhao Chang was born in the Ministry of the Interior, three years younger than Kangxi's entourage. In the mid-Kangxi period, Zhao was appointed as the general manager of the manufacturing office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was an organization specializing in the manufacture of royal products in the Qing Dynasty.

Kangxi is old. Because of the death of Liang Jiugong, Zhao Chang was transferred to Kangxi to take care of him. Zhao Chang therefore witnessed many important historical events in Kangxi's later years, as well as his inheritance and death. After the death of Kangxi, the fourth son, Yin Zhen, was named Yong Zhengdi. But before Yongzheng was officially crowned, he executed Zhao Chang at Kangxi's funeral and confiscated all his possessions.

Yongzheng executed Zhao Chang for the following reasons: he used his position to install spies, including many of his relatives; Secretly abolished the status of Hong, the son of the Prince, and made a sickle of fire; Neiku owes five thousand two hundred pieces of silver. According to the regulations of the Qing Dynasty, after the death of the old emperor, eunuchs who served the old emperor were generally sent back to China or transferred to other places. Theoretically speaking, Zhao Chang, as a trusted eunuch who served Kangxi for 60 years, made no achievements, but worked hard. After Yongzheng acceded to the throne, be kind to him and let him go home to support the elderly, even if he is not regarded as an important person.
