The site of Shahe Ancient Bridge is located in the dry channel of Shahe River in Diaotai Town Village, Qindu District, Xianyang. 1986 1 month, local farmers discovered two wooden bridge sites while fetching sand, which were listed as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China in 1989. After excavation and cleaning, there are 1 6 rows, 165 and 438+02 piles exposed on the1bridge, with a distance of 3-6m. The exposed pile is about 2 meters high and 40 centimeters in diameter. The upper end of the bridge pile is incomplete, with traces of fire, and the bridge deck no longer exists. Seven cuboid iron troughs weighing about 2-3 tons were found inside and outside the last row of bridge piles at the southern end of the bridge. Bridge No.2 is 300 meters east of 1 bridge, and five rows of 4 1 piles are found with a row spacing of about 8 meters, which have been backfilled and protected.
According to the research of Mr. Tang Huancheng, a famous bridge expert in China, these two ancient bridges in Qin and Han Dynasties are the largest and oldest large wooden bridges in the world, which play a very important role in the history of human traffic and bridges in the world.
