Kangding city, located in the east of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is the state capital of Ganzi Prefecture. The whole city covers an area of 1. 1.6 million square kilometers, and is a city dominated by Tibetans, with Han, Hui, Yi, Qiang and other ethnic groups living together.

Kangding is a Chinese name, so it is named because to the east of Dandashan is Kang, which means Kang is stable. In Tibetan, Kangding is called Duozhe, which means Daqu (Yalong River) and Zheduo River (Zheduo River) at the intersection of two rivers. The old history was translated into fried furnace, and later into arrow furnace, referred to as furnace city.

On March 3rd, 2020, kangding city was selected into the list of advanced counties (cities, districts) in rural reform in Sichuan Province in 20 19.

On June 29th, 2020, kangding city was selected as the first batch of provincial-level global tourism demonstration zones in Sichuan.
