Living buddhas help the public-through the ages, celebrities are like the Ganges; However, those who can be appealed by both the East and the West should first push the living Buddha in China to help the public. Ji Gong was born in Shaoxing in the 18th year of the Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1 148) and died in Jiading in the 2nd year (A.D. 1209), a native of Yongning Village, Tiantai Mountain, Zhejiang Province. He was a Zen monk in the Southern Song Dynasty, and his dharma name was Daoji.
As a Zen monk, Jigong wrote many poems. Like Han Shan, Feng Gan and Shide, he was influenced by both Zen and Taoist seclusion. The difference is that the color of Buddhism and Taoism makes him unique among many Buddhist disciples. This is related to his study in Chicheng Mountain, where he practiced Buddhism and Taoism since childhood, and was influenced by the folk customs of "Taizhou-style car-scrapping".
When Ji Gong was born, he happened to meet the sudden collapse of the 17th Lohan (that is, Lohan who descended the dragon) in the Lohan Hall in imperial academy, so people said that Ji Gong was reincarnated as Lohan. People look forward to the savior, and society calls for heroes. When people are in great need of sages, monks become "living buddhas".
