Therefore, in ancient times, there were officials who were determined to benefit the people, such as Ma Jian Jian Lake, Gui Shan Xiang Lake and Zhao Yanxian seawall, all for the people's lives. Even so, nature is a landscape change, different from ancient times to modern times. So it is right to have the past, but it is inappropriate to have the present. Virtuous people mainly look at interests, how can they get back things that stick to the past? At that time, the stream flowed into the sea, and it was beneficial to store water by building ponds around the lake. In the past, officials naturally built weirs and dams to stop water and prohibited waste lakes from reclaiming farmland. Nowadays, abandoned ponds have turned into fertile fields. The surrounding counties hope to rely on them to feed the people for a long time, but they insist on one thing, but they don't know how to change it, okay? This is also the reason why the water conservancy projects built by Dai Hou and Dai Hu, the magistrate of Shaoxing, are different from their predecessors! . -It is forbidden to paste and modify at will. As a celebrity, Dai Hou came to Shaoxing to preside over government affairs. As soon as he arrived, he was busy asking people about their sufferings. So I chose a day, called craftsmen, and built a stone gate in the key place of ponds and lakes to regulate the drainage flood. The completed stone gates and switches are fixed, which are absolutely beneficial and durable. All the demand comes from the government, and the people do not bear the cost. Personally, I think soil and water are the greatest uses of the five elements. Soil is suitable for farming, but it is indispensable for crops to grow well. But if the water overflows, it may often become a disaster, so the water must be restrained with soil. This is why the wise monarchs in ancient times must strictly guard against the blockage of ditches, and all the good officials in the world practice dredging and silting. This is reasonable. Now, some of those water conservancy facilities have survived and some have been abandoned, but over the past 100 years, people have benefited a lot from them and it is natural for them to admire the virtue of builders. Dai Hou built these projects on the basis of predecessors. Although he did not stick to the previous water conservancy measures, his thought of benefiting the people was the same as that of the ancients.
