The history of the School of Geographical Sciences of Nanjing Normal University can be traced back to Nanjing Normal University in 19 19. In 2004, Professor Lin Zhenshan's Research on Environmental Evolution and Population Evolution won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Award nominated by the Ministry of Education, and two courses, Modern Physical Geography hosted by Professor Wang Jian and Geographic Information System funded by Professor Guoan Tang, both won the title of national excellent courses.

In 2004, the Virtual Geographic Environment Laboratory was selected as the training site of the State Key Laboratory of Jiangsu Province.
