Deng Zhongyuan (1886— 1922), formerly known as Deng Shiyuan, also known as Deng Keng. Freshwater native of Huiyang, Guangdong Province, was born in Jinpanbao, Bingcun Town, Meixian District, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, he traveled with his father to Danshui in Huiyang City, and then settled in Danshui.
He studied in Huiyang in his early years and graduated from Chongya School. In the 31st year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1905), he entered Jiang Yang School. The following year, he worked as a teaching assistant in the Infantry Department of Jiang Yang School and the public land management school, and secretly joined the league. In the thirty-third year of Guangxu, he served as the platoon leader of Guangdong New Army School Camp and acted as the left team officer. Xuan Tongyuannian (1909) was the principal of Huangpu Army Primary School, and introduced Chen, Chen, Deng, Zhang Fakui, Xue Yue, Ye Ting, Zhang and others who were studying in Lu Xiao at that time. The following year, he joined the Guangzhou New Army and participated in the Huanghuagang Uprising. Since then, he has entered the military career for more than ten years.
He used to be the director of the war department of the Guangdong military government, the chief of staff of the Guangdong army headquarters, and the commander of the first division of the army. He participated in the crusade against Yuan Shikai and expelled Long Jiguang, with outstanding military achievements.
1935, the authorities of the Republic of China decided to add March 23rd as "Deng Zhongyuan Martyrs Memorial Day" in the Concise List of Revolutionary Memorial Days.
Deng Zhongyuan's death caused a great shock in Guangdong at that time, and many cities held mourning activities. This grief can still be deeply felt today, such as the "Deng Ji Villa" in Lipu, West Lake, Huizhou, and the Central Plains Pavilion, which still stands proudly by Hufeng Lake today; In Guangzhou, there are the solemn tomb of Deng Keng, Zhongyuan Middle School and Zhongyuan Library. In Meizhou, there are Zhongyuan East Road, Zhongyuan West Road and Zhongyuan Vocational School, all of which are eternal memorials to Deng Hang.
After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Central People's Government ratified Deng Zhongyuan as a revolutionary martyr. At present, Guangzhou has Huizhou West Lake Zhongyuan Pavilion and Guangdong Panyu Zhongyuan Middle School to commemorate it.
