Yang Yu 1957 was born in Xiajin, Shandong Province on April 25th. 1974 to 1976 worked as an educated youth in Beiguan Forest Farm of Tieli Forestry Bureau in Heilongjiang Province. Since then, he has formed an indissoluble bond with trees and forestry.

1977 was admitted to the forestry major of Northeast Forestry College (now Northeast Forestry University) at that time. 1980 after graduation, he stayed in school to teach in the teaching and research section of forest genetics and breeding, and began his research career of tirelessly exploring the mysteries of forest trees. 1985 to 1988, studying for a master's degree in this major. During this period, he also went to the Finnish Academy of Forestry to study forest genetics and breeding. Although it only lasted for two months, it greatly broadened his horizons and ideas.

Since then, he has been a lecturer, associate professor and professor, and deputy director and director of the scientific research department of Northeast Forestry University. From 1995 to 1998, I became a student again, studying for a doctorate in botany in Northeast Forestry University. For many years, Yang has been devoted to the research work in the field of forest genetic breeding in China. In the construction of northern seed orchard, a new idea was put forward that the materials should be based on fruit and growth traits, while taking into account resistance and shape and quality indicators. At the national academic report meeting on forest genetics and breeding, it was also proposed that the second selection of superior trees should be carried out nationwide.

On the road of scientific research, Yang created many firsts: for the first time, he put forward the concept of afforestation ecological similar area and the division method of similar area, which put forward a feasible and unsolved problem for the study of geographical variation law and the determination of representative pilot projects; The concept of equivalent latitude was introduced to China for the first time, and it was first applied to provenance research practice. For the first time, the intensive breeding of Betula platyphylla was organically combined with the holographic time series automatic monitoring of artificial ecological factors, and 2-3-year-old young Betula platyphylla trees blossomed and bore fruit in 5-6 years.

During the period of 1990, at the appraisal meeting hosted by the Ministry of Forestry and attended by most members of the Standing Committee of China Forest Genetics and Breeding Society, experts thought that Yang's "provenance test of Larix olgensis" had reached the international advanced level. Yang's scientific research results are producing great economic benefits. On the basis of experimental study on provenance of Larix olgensis, cooperation with the Provincial Forestry Department to promote the excellent provenance of Xiaobeihu began with 1988. As one of the main participants of Northeast Forestry University, Yang participated in the whole promotion process. By the end of 1993, the accumulated afforestation area was 82,626.08 hectares. It has been popularized for 7 years, with an annual extension of 8,946.5 hectares, an average annual timber growth of 88,034.35 cubic meters, an average annual timber income of 30178,200 yuan, an average annual tax payment of 85 10300 yuan and an average annual net income of 65,438+. If all the seeds of the excellent provenance of Xiaobeihu Lake are used for afforestation, the annual output of our province will increase by 7.218,200 cubic meters by the time of main cutting in 22 years, and the income from increasing production will be 2.474 billion yuan, and the tax will be 655 million yuan.

The success of "birch intensive breeding technology" has attracted great attention from colleagues, production units, management departments and relevant experts and leaders at home and abroad. The Provincial General Administration of Forest Industry decided to popularize the intensive breeding technology of Betula platyphylla in Northeast Forestry University. Hebei Forestry Bureau has established a birch seed orchard with a total area of 4,000 square meters.

65438+1September, 1999, the State Planning Commission's major biological high-tech industrialization project, including the Betula platyphylla enhanced seed orchard, namely "High-tech industrialization demonstration project of excellent forest clone rapid propagation base in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province", has been approved by the State Planning Commission with a total investment of 68 million yuan. The construction of this project is supported by Northeast Forestry University, with Professor Yang as the technical director.

Yang's scientific research achievements have also achieved remarkable social benefits. Geographical provenance variation and provenance selection of Larix olgensis have been included in GB "China Forest Seed Zone" promulgated and implemented by the State 1998, which has important guiding significance for scientific management of Larix olgensis seeds and construction of improved seed base.

Yang has a profound theoretical foundation and rich practical experience in the field of forest and wood breeding research.
