What are the biographies of Guo Shoujing?
Guo Shoujing (1231~1316), a native of Xingtai, Shunde, was a famous astronomer, hydraulic scientist and mathematician in ancient China. Zeng studied under the astronomer and geographer Liu at that time, and was recommended to be called as the water supervisor, reviving the canals near Xixia River and Wuzhou, and later repairing Tonghui River. 1276, he was ordered to revise the calendar and participated in compiling a more accurate service calendar. This chronicle is compiled on the basis of a large number of astronomical practices. Guo Shoujing believed that the calendar must be calibrated according to the actual measurement, so he first engaged in manufacturing astronomical instruments, and created and improved nearly 20 kinds of instruments for observing the astronomical phenomena, such as simple instruments, supine instruments, altimeters, weather instruments, landscape symbols and peepers. He also set up 27 observation stations all over the country to carry out large-scale measurements, re-observed the positions of 28 constellations and other constant stars, and determined the intersection angle of the yellow and the red, which achieved extremely high accuracy. The calculation of this calendar is extremely detailed, so it can be implemented in China for 360 years, which is the longest calendar in China history.
