1938 graduated from the chemistry department of Wuhan university, and once worked in the industrial and mining adjustment department of the former Ministry of Economic Affairs, responsible for the acceptance, transportation and storage of raw materials. From 65438 to 0942, he was stationed in India and worked as an intern at Tata Steel Works in India. 1944 went to the university of Birmingham, England, 1948 received a doctorate in natural philosophy, engaged in the study of phase transformation mechanism in alloys, and was hired as a lecturer in the department of theoretical metals for life. 1954, taught at Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel (now University of Science and Technology Beijing), and served as the head of metallurgy department, head of physical chemistry department and vice president of Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel. Honorary Doctor of Science from McMaster University in Canada and University of Shari in England. Concurrently: Honorary member of Japanese Metal Society and Indian Metal Society, honorary chairman of chinese society of history of science and technology, director of the Preparatory Committee of China Science and Technology Teaching and Research Society, honorary researcher of China Institute of Scientific Metals, former executive director of China Metal Society and Nonferrous Metals Society, consultant of University of Science and Technology Beijing, consultant of Peking University Ancient Civilization Research Center, and consultant of China Social Science Ancient Civilization Research Center. 1980 was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He used to be a member of the Standing Committee of the Faculty, and now he is a senior academician. He has won the National Natural Science Award and the He Li Award.
