The north gate is gate 1 in the north area of Southwest University (formerly Southwest Normal University), and the south gate is gate 2 in the south area of Southwest University (formerly Southwest Agricultural University). There is a small gate 3 between gate 1 and gate 2.

Located in Chongqing, Southwest University, referred to as Xida for short, is a university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. It is a "double-first-class" world-class discipline construction university, ranking the dominant discipline innovation platform in 21project and 985 project. Selected in 1 1 1 plan, 20 1 1 plan, excellent agricultural and forestry personnel education and training plan, excellent teacher training plan, 100-school project, national high-level university graduate program, and national college students' cultural quality education base. It is one of the seven free normal education universities in China, a pilot university of national independent selection and admission reform, and a scholarship for foreign students from China government.

Southwest University was formed by the merger of Southwest Normal University directly under the former Ministry of Education and Southwest Agricultural University directly under the former Ministry of Agriculture in 2005. The original two schools were built adjacent to each other, with the same root and the same origin, and both of them can be traced back to the East Sichuan Normal School established by 1906.
