In Singapore, universities and polytechnics belong to the category of higher education.
Universities in Singapore
At present, there are five public universities in Singapore: National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, Singapore University of Science and Technology Design and Singapore Technological University.
According to the different stages of study, you can study undergraduate, master and doctor.
Undergraduate course: It usually takes 3 years. If you need to study for an honorary degree, you can study for one more year (an honorary bachelor's degree is divided into a first-class honorary degree and a second-class honorary degree);
Master: generally, it takes 1-2 years;
Doctoral degree: It usually takes 3-5 years.
Note: Singapore is still an elite education system. Only the above five public universities are eligible to issue bachelor's degree certificates (or above), and the undergraduate diplomas of private universities are jointly run with universities in third countries.
Singapore Institute of Technology
There are five polytechnics in Singapore: Singapore Polytechnic, Ang 'an Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic and Rational Institute of Technology.
The academic system of the Singapore Institute of Technology is usually three years, and a diploma in professional education is obtained after completing the diploma course. Some students who have obtained professional education diplomas will choose to enter national universities for further study and obtain university degrees, but they will start from sophomore or junior year, not from freshman year. The rest go straight to work.
School holidays in Singapore
Public universities in Singapore hold classes for two semesters every year, and then take two long holidays. The two long holidays are: from the beginning of May to the beginning of August (*** 12 weeks) and 1/end to1start (* * * five weeks).
