Art College of Nantong University, formerly known as Art Department of Nantong Normal University, was founded in 1984, and Art and Design College of Nantong University was established in 2004. In April 2009, the former Music Department of the School of Education Science of Nantong University was merged into the School of Fine Arts and Design of Nantong University, and the Art College of Nantong University was established. The college currently has 1 13 faculty members, including 97 full-time teachers, 3 associate professors, 4 doctors, 64 masters and 24 tutors for master students. Professor Fan Ceng from Nankai University, Professor Yuan Yunfu from Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Yuan Yunsheng from Central Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Xu Ping from Design College of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Wu Weishan from Art College of Nanjing University, Professor john young from China Art College, Professor Wu Lieyan from Nanjing Art College, Professor Ruan Rongchun from Art College of Shanghai University and Professor Guo Weimin from Jiangnan University have been invited as visiting professors. The college has two art buildings and supporting teaching buildings, including multimedia classrooms, computer rooms, student studios, sculpture studios, industrial design studios, dyeing and weaving studios, animation laboratories, exhibition halls, piano rooms, concert halls and other relatively complete teaching facilities. At present, there are two master programs in fine arts, music and dance, and 50 graduate students are studying. There are 8 undergraduate majors in fine arts (normal school), fine arts, art design, industrial design (literature), industrial design (engineering), animation, musicology (normal school) and musicology, and there are 387 full-time undergraduates 1.

The college has always attached importance to teaching, firmly established the central position of teaching, insisted that teaching quality is the lifeline of the college's development, deepened the reform of education and teaching, strengthened the teaching capital construction and teaching management, and the quality of education and teaching has been continuously improved.
