A brief history of the development of Strasbourg University
Three universities in Strasbourg merged on New Year's Day in 2009. The name of the merged school is Université de Strasbourg, or UDS for short.

The first three universities were established in Gymnase Protestant School in 1569 (founded by Jacques Sturm in 1538). The higher education department of Gymnase Protestantism concentrated the most famous scholars at that time, teaching theology, medicine and law. 1556 French college was established, where graduates can obtain teacher grade certificates. 162 1 year, the French Language Institute officially entered the ranks of universities, and was eligible to award bachelor's degrees and doctoral degrees. 163 1 became a royal university.

By 168 1, this Lutheran school had maintained its privileges and status and became a European cultural fortress in17th century. Its "European Institute of Public Rights" (also known as the Foreign Affairs Institute) has trained a large number of outstanding diplomatic talents. Metternich studied here in 1788- 1790. This famous diplomat is not the only celebrity who came out of here. Later, johann wolfgang von goethe also chose to finish his studies here. As an old school, it suffered a lot in the French Revolution, but because one of its teachers (CHRISTOPHE GUILLAUME KOCH) was a member of the Constituent Assembly, thanks to his handling, the school finally avoided the fate of being dissolved.

Higher education in Strasbourg, like higher education in France as a whole, was reorganized in the form of colleges during the First Empire of France, and then developed to organize teaching in the form of establishing departments in universities. 19 19 after the first world war, the university of Strasbourg once again shouldered two major missions: on the one hand, it ensured the prestige of French thought and culture in Europe, and on the other hand, it became the conference center of Rhine culture. During clermont-ferrand's retreat, members of the resistance organized by the school were either taken to concentration camps or assassinated. Therefore, the tragic history of World War II left an indelible memory in the history of the school. 1945165438+1October 22nd, the school officially returned to Strasbourg, and it can operate and develop in a peaceful environment again. 1968, the promulgation of the French higher education reform law made another major change in the University of Strasbourg. After that, it is divided into three universities according to different centers of gravity: one mainly develops natural sciences, one mainly develops humanities, and the third mainly develops law, politics, society and technology.

Zhu Guangqian (1897-1986), a famous aesthetician, literary theorist, educator and translator in China, studied in this school in 1930s, and 1933 received his doctorate.

1 Strasbourg 1

Strasbourg No.1 Middle School is a university with nearly 16500 students. With his outstanding contributions in the field of science, he has become a leader in first-class universities in France and even Europe. At the same time, Strasbourg is interdisciplinary and has the National Research Center (CNRS).

The long-term and stable cooperative relationship between the National Institute of Health Care (INSERM) and the cooperative intention reached with the National Institute of Agriculture (INRA) further consolidated this position. The University of Strasbourg is advancing in constant exploration (for example, in the high-tech field formed by the intersection of biology, chemistry and nature, medicine, computer and other disciplines). At the same time, the school actively supports project developers, scholars and even students to actively set up enterprises and realize the industrialization of research results. The "incubation" project park jointly established by them and domestic group enterprises is established to promote the process of scientific and technological transformation.

2.Strasbourg II

Strasbourg is the second largest university, focusing on literature, language and social sciences. Among them, the School of Management is famous. Many scientific research projects in universities are open to the international community, and it is their tradition to accept a large number of foreign students for a long time. It is particularly worth mentioning that since the first and third universities are public universities, all professional courses are taught in French, but there are no intensive French courses, so international students should take intensive French courses in Strasbourg first to prepare for their entry into universities.

3.strasbourg iii

The University of Strasbourg III, also known as Robert Schumann University, developed into an institution of higher learning in the early 1960s. 1969 On March 27th, Strasbourg III was formally established. Since its establishment, the school has established a relatively complete modern higher education system in response to the needs of the times, laying the foundation for today's multi-disciplinary and degree-complete. In the early 1990s, the School of Engineering was opened, and the Institute of Technology of the Second University (ROANNE) was established in Saint-Etienne, adding more disciplines at the master's and doctoral levels.

In 2003-2004, she joined the new European education system (Bachelor, Master and Doctor (LMD) system).
