Shanxi Normal University, referred to as "Shanxi Normal University", is located in Linfen City, Shanxi Province. It is a key university in Shanxi Province, and has been selected into the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions, the reform project of excellent teacher training plan, and the 133 1 project of Shanxi Province.

Shanxi Normal University was founded in 1958, formerly known as Jinnan Normal University. 1964 was reorganized into Shanxi Normal University, 1984 was renamed as Shanxi Normal University, and 1999 was merged with Shanxi Vocational Normal University and Shanxi Normal University Physical Education Institute (independently compiled).

As of June 20 19, Shanxi Normal University has three campuses, namely the headquarters (No.Gong Yuan Street 1), the second campus (No.85 Jiefang East Road) and the third campus (No.355 Jiefang East Road).

Shanxi Normal University is located in Linfen, ancient Du Yao, an important birthplace of Chinese civilization. The school was founded in 1958, formerly known as Jinnan Teachers College. 1964 was upgraded to an undergraduate college, named Shanxi Teachers College, 1984 was renamed Shanxi Normal University, and 1999 was merged with the Physical Education College of Shanxi Normal University (independently compiled) and Shanxi Vocational Teachers College.
