Haidian District is located in the west and northwest of Beijing urban area and its suburbs, bordering Chaoyang District, Xicheng District, Fengtai District, Shijingshan District, Mentougou District and Changping District, between 39 53' and 40 09' north latitude and116 03'-1/kloc-east longitude. The total area is 43 1 km2, accounting for about 2.53% of Beijing's total area. The jurisdiction is an irregular parallelogram, and the east and west sides are longer than the north and south sides. Hebei village in the East Pole is about 29 kilometers away from Mount Yang in the West Pole, and Shuangta Village in the North Pole is about 30 kilometers away from Wujiachang in the South Pole.

Geological structure of Haidian district
Haidian district is located at the southern edge of Yinshan composite structural belt, where the reflex arc of the east wing of Qilu-Helanshan structure meets the Neocathaysian structural belt. The western mountainous area is the uplift belt of Beijing Xishan, and the eastern plain is the subsidence belt of Beijing Plain. The geological structure is developed, the structural characteristics are complex and the magmatic activity is frequent.
Except Archaean, Sinian, Upper Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Lower Carboniferous and Cretaceous strata in Haidian District, other strata are distributed from Cambrian to Quaternary, with complete lithology, and sedimentary rocks, magmatic rocks and metamorphic rocks are exposed.
Haidian District, located in the northern edge of North China Plain, is a part of the ancient Yongding River alluvial. It has a mountainous plain with high terrain in the west and low terrain in the east. The west is a mountainous area with an altitude of over 100 meters, covering an area of about 66 square kilometers, accounting for about 15% of the total area. The east and south are plains about 50 meters above sea level, covering an area of about 360 square kilometers, accounting for about 85% of the total area.
