Nudt consists of the initials of the English name of National University of Defense Technology.

The National University of Defense Technology of PLA (hereinafter referred to as the National University of Defense Technology) is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a comprehensive military university directly led by the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Production Party, and has always been a key institution for national and military construction.

The University of National Defense Technology was formerly known as the Military Engineering College of China People's Liberation Army. 1953 was established in Harbin, namely "Harbin Military Industry", with General Chen Geng as the first president and political commissar. When the Military Engineering College was founded, Chairman Mao personally issued "training words" for the college.

National University of Defense Technology has 46 undergraduate education majors, 26 first-class master's degree authorization points and 23 first-class doctoral degree authorization points. In the fourth round of the overall level evaluation of national first-level disciplines, the school was rated as eight A-level disciplines.

Among them, there are 4 A+ disciplines, 3 A disciplines, and A disciplines 1, and A+ disciplines are ranked 1 1 in national universities. Five disciplines, including information and communication engineering, computer science and technology, aerospace science and technology, software engineering, management science and engineering, were selected as "double-class" construction disciplines in China.
