School of Journalism and Media, Southwest University is a vibrant young college in the century-old history of Southwest University. In April 2006, in order to meet the needs of the times and the development of disciplines, the School of Journalism and Media of Southwest Normal University was jointly established by the School of Original Text, the School of Computer and Information Science and some majors of the former Southwest Agricultural University Information Center, which opened a new chapter in the development of the college.

The college has adopted the discipline development strategy of "emphasizing key points and coordinating development" and formed a complete talent training system. There are three undergraduate majors: journalism, radio and television director and broadcasting and hosting. There are two master's degree programs in journalism and communication, drama and film (co-founded with the College of Arts) and 1 master's degree program in journalism and communication.
There are four doctoral training directions: media culture education, media industry education, art aesthetics and Chinese curriculum teaching theory. As of September 20 14, there are 722 undergraduates, 234 postgraduates, 25 doctoral students and 6 international students.
