Fudan University, located in Shanghai, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It ranks among the first batch of "double first-class" (Class A), "985 Project" and "21project" key construction universities in China, and has been selected into Everest Plan, Strong Foundation Plan and 165438.

The school, formerly known as Fudan College, was founded in 1905. It is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning independently established by the people in China. 1952 after the adjustment of departments, the school has become a comprehensive university focusing on basic teaching and research of arts and sciences. In 2000, Fudan University merged with Shanghai Medical University, the fourth national medical college of Sun Yat-sen University founded by 1927, to form a new Fudan University.

19 15 In order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Fudan University, Lee Teng-hui, then president, organized a discussion among professors of Chinese Department. Finally, President Ma Lao chose the motto of Fudan University: "Be knowledgeable and diligent, ask more questions and think more." The school motto comes from The Analects of Confucius, Zhang Zi.
