The school was founded in 1958, closed in 1963, resumed business in 197 1 996, and was renamed as "baotou teachers college". The former Baotou Normal School was founded in 1947. The former Baotou Institute of Education was founded in 1978. In 2003, baotou teachers college merged with Baotou Institute of Iron and Steel and Baotou Medical College to form Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology. At the end of 2004, the school resumed its independent legal personality.
