This university is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China, and one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students. It is the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas. It is led by the national "20 1 1 Plan", jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of National Defense Science and Technology, Fujian Province and Xiamen City, and the first batch of 20 independent degree examination universities. Xiamen University is known as "the most beautiful university in China", facing Gulangyu Island, a world cultural heritage, across the sea. The early school buildings, such as Xianlou Group, Furong Group and Xiamen University Anthropology Museum, are national key cultural relics protection units, and were selected as the "first batch of China 20th century architectural heritage".
