The Institute of Physical Education of Sichuan University was established in 2003 on the basis of the former physical education teaching and research department of Sichuan University and according to the needs of career development. The Physical Education Department of Sichuan University was merged from the former Sichuan University and the former Chengdu University of Technology 1994, and then merged with the Physical Education Department of West China University of Medical Sciences in 2000.
Chengdu Institute of Physical Education, referred to as "Adult" for short, is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning approved by the State Sports General Administration and the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and mainly managed by Sichuan Province. It is also the national social sports instructor training base and the foreign aid coach training base of the State Sports General Administration.
