Southwest Petroleum University is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It is the first batch of "double first-class" universities jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Sichuan Provincial People's Government, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Co., Ltd., China Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. and China Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd.

By February of 20 16, Southwest Petroleum University had established inter-school contacts with more than 30 universities and academic research institutions in the United States, Russia, Germany, Japan, France, Canada and other countries. Through scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges, we have established school-enterprise cooperation with more than 30 foreign companies in China. In addition to academic exchanges, we also actively introduce foreign capital to set up scholarships, such as ConocoPhillips Scholarship, Schlumberger Energy Fund Scholarship and Chevron Scholarship.
During the period of 1989, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) built the Oil Well Completion Technology Center in this school, and the Canadian government built the China-Canada Natural Gas Exploration and Development Technology Training Center in this school. Relying on these two centers, we have carried out a large number of academic exchanges and technical training activities with overseas petroleum science and technology academic institutions, and held 34 special trainings and large-scale lectures on oil and gas exploration and development, storage and transportation refining and management, environmental protection, and continuing engineering education.
