Xi 'an University of Science and Technology has a long history and profound foundation. The history of the school can be traced back to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy, School of Engineering, Beiyang University, which was founded in 1895. 1938 moved to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Northwest Institute of Technology, 1957 merged into Xi Jiaotong University, 1958 Xi 'an Mining Institute was established by Xi Jiaotong University. It was one of the only two five-year undergraduate colleges under the former Ministry of Coal Industry at that time.
