Tongji University School of International Cultural Exchange, founded in 1998, is a secondary college specializing in teaching and researching Chinese as a foreign language. At present, there are more than 600 foreign students studying Chinese from 108 countries, including nearly 100 undergraduates studying Chinese. The college has a team of teachers with reasonable age structure and discipline structure. The current dean is Professor Liu.
The history of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Tongji University began in the 1970s. After the school resumed enrolling foreign students, it specially arranged for Mr. China to offer special Chinese courses for foreign students who entered professional study. 1987, open short-term Chinese training courses to recruit short-term Chinese students. From 1993, the school began to undertake the task of Chinese training for foreign students before they entered the major. College began to recruit Chinese language majors in 2002, and the first undergraduate graduated smoothly in July 2006. In the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language for more than 30 years, relying on the advantages of urban construction, architectural history, tourism culture, economic management and other disciplines, our school has taken the road of integrating teaching Chinese as a foreign language with its majors, which has been welcomed by international students.
The Institute of International Cultural Exchange has established a relatively complete Chinese teaching system with and without academic qualifications. The teaching goal of Chinese (economic and trade direction) is to train foreign students who can skillfully use Chinese, understand China's national conditions and culture, be familiar with China's foreign-related economic laws and regulations, have the ability to engage in economic and trade activities in Chinese, and be competent for economic and trade cooperation and exchanges with China through systematic teaching of Chinese basic knowledge and skills. Since March 2007, Chinese undergraduate classes have been enrolled in spring and autumn. From 2065438 to February 2004, under the guidance and support of Hanban, the undergraduate major of Chinese language increased the direction of Chinese international education on the basis of the original economic and trade direction.
