2 1 century political science series "Introduction to the History of Chinese Political System" was published in June 2004. Author Zhang Ming is a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Political Science, School of International Studies, Renmin University of China. This book discusses the history of China's political system from feudal times to the late Qing Dynasty. The author uses the methods of institutionalism and historicism to study the political organization framework, political culture changes, political operation rules and mechanisms changes and social power structure changes in this historical time and space. It not only outlines the history of Chinese political system, but also highlights the characteristics and core issues of Chinese political system.
Teacher Zhang Ming reinterprets the historical changes of China's political system with his years of experience in studying China's political system. This book is divided into nine chapters:
The first chapter "pre-feudal era and feudal era" introduces the development of feudal system in Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties and the political system in a longer period of time.
The second chapter is "the era of bureaucratic empire-the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to Qin and Han Dynasties", which introduces the transition from feudal system to bureaucratic empire in the Spring and Autumn Period, the Legalist Empire in the Qin Dynasty and the Wang Ba Way in the Han Dynasty.
The third chapter, nobility and imperial power-the Three Kingdoms, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, introduces the aristocratic politics, door politics, the nine-product system, the evolution of local politics and administrative divisions, and the privatization of the army in this period.
The fourth chapter, Examination Empire-Sui and Tang Dynasties, mainly introduces the institutional changes in Sui and Tang Dynasties, and expounds in detail the three provinces and six departments system, imperial examination system, collective prime minister system, bureaucratic examination system, supervision system, military system, local government system and judicial system in Sui and Tang Dynasties.
The fifth chapter, Warlord Regime-Five Dynasties and Ten Countries, introduces the military structure and civil service system that lacked civil service spirit in this period.
Chapter VI "Exquisite and Complex Network Kingdom" introduces the central administrative organs, local official system, school system, personnel system and military system in Song Dynasty.
The seventh chapter "Grassland Empire" shows readers the unique political system in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties. Chapter 8: Absolute kingship —— The political system in China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (before 1860) was introduced. The ninth chapter introduces the "transformation pain" of China's political system in the late Qing Dynasty.
Different from the previous writings and textbooks on the history of Chinese political system, Mr. Zhang Ming rearranged the history of Chinese political system in chronological order and made a new explanation and summary of the institutional characteristics of each dynasty. As he himself said, "institutional history is not a simple list of historical materials, nor a line-by-line description of the changes in the official system." It is a new interpretation of past institutional changes and shows the inherent logic and rationality of history. "
