I am a freshman, and I plan to conquer English in winter vacation. My English foundation is almost zero. What should I do and where should I learn?
It is impossible to conquer English in a winter vacation. Learning has objective laws, and there is no such thing as a shortcut! The so-called conquest of English, as far as college students are concerned, should be based on passing Band 4. At least your vocabulary should reach 5000 at the beginning, and you should master tense and voice in grammar. All these things need time to accumulate, and can only be mastered through repeated memorization and a lot of practice, so you should make an English study plan for one to two years with a calm mind (because you have other courses to learn, it will take a year for students with zero foundation in professional language training to reach Band 4. Generally speaking, training abroad is basic, and optical English takes half a year, so don't believe that short-term crash can only help you learn daily conversation. I suggest you start with words and reading. If possible, download Kingsoft PowerWord on the computer, and then look up words according to the course through Kingsoft PowerWord (starting from new concept English), learn pronunciation and recitation, use new concept English (four volumes * * *) as self-study materials, and learn one or two lessons every day (the first two volumes are very simple), and there are corresponding explanations and exercises of words and grammar after class. It has a matching listening and exercise book, which is for you. If you still have time, buy some primary school English reading exercise books (high school level is enough, high school reading problem sets are many) and try to read two or three short articles every day. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it at first. It takes about three or four months to reach the level of high school graduation, and it can last for one year to one and a half years. There is still great hope of passing CET-4. Don't be afraid. This is well-founded and exemplary. Generally, many students who study Russian and Japanese in universities can reach the same English level through a year of studying a second foreign language. Their textbooks are also new concepts. Work hard! I wish you good grades!
