School of Architectural Planning of Chongqing University starts from 1937.

1952 during the adjustment of departments, the Department of Architecture of Chongqing Institute of Architecture was established by the order of the Culture and Education Department of Southwest Military and Political Commission (52)4339, which was composed of four original departments: the Department of Architecture of National Chongqing University, the Department of Architecture Engineering of National Southwest Technical College, the Department of Architecture of Chengdu Art College and the Department of Architecture Engineering of South Sichuan Technical College. It was changed to 1954 in May.

Among the above four departments, the earliest and only department with the right to award bachelor's degrees is the Department of Architecture, School of Engineering, Chongqing University, which was established in the autumn of 1937 with a four-year academic system. It is the fourth national university in the history of modern education in China to offer architecture department after Central University, Northeastern University and Sun Yat-sen University. Chen, who graduated from Technical University in Berlin, Germany, Huang Jiahua, who graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Luo, who graduated from King Sano Labor University in Belgium, and Ye Zhongqiao, who graduated from Central University of the United States and Kansas State University, successively served as the department heads of the former National Chongqing University. Chengdu Art Institute, formerly known as Sichuan Art Institute, began to enroll architecture students in the autumn of 194 1, with a five-year academic system. The first dean was Liu Wenbao, who graduated from Beijing Normal University. National Southwest Institute of Technology was originally a national central industrial (vocational) college established in Nanjing by 1937. The Department of Architecture and Engineering began to enroll students 1945, including Xu Zhong, who graduated from Central University of the United States and University of Illinois, and Huang Baoxun, who graduated from Paris University. South Sichuan Institute of Technology was founded after liberation. Ye Qi, director of the Department of Architectural Engineering, graduated from the Department of Architecture of Chongqing University.

In essence, it is the first specialized civil engineering college in New China newly established during the adjustment of departments in China. It is also the only national key university affiliated to the Ministry of Construction after the reform and opening up, and one of the famous "Old Eight Schools" in China. The Department of Architecture of Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture (renamed "chongqing jianzhu university Institute of Architectural Planning" after 1994) has gradually developed into the oldest and largest school in China. Over the past 80 years, more than 10,000 outstanding graduates have been trained, including the chief architect of China Architectural Southwest Design Institute, Zeng Naifan, the chief architect of Sichuan Design Institute, Zhang, the president of Northwest Institute of Architecture and Engineering, and Song Rong, the deputy chief architect of Beijing Architectural Design Institute, as well as three national engineering survey and design masters such as Zhao and Zhao, and dozens of provincial engineering survey and design masters such as Li, Dong Ming, Xu Feng and Huang Jie.
