Guangxi University of Science and Technology cooperated with the University of Rumbia in the United Kingdom to set up the undergraduate major of mechanical engineering. Guangxi University of Science and Technology, located in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is an authorized unit for bachelor's and master's degrees approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, a pilot university of "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" and a selected university of "New Engineering Research and Practice Project". It is a work-oriented institution directly managed by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The school was approved by the Ministry of Education in April 13 and was formed by the merger of the former Guangxi Institute of Technology and the former Liuzhou Medical College. Guangxi Institute of Technology was founded in 1958, merged with Guangxi Institute of Light Industry, Guangxi Institute of Mechanical Industry and Guangxi Institute of Petrochemical Technology in 1982, and moved from Nanning to Liuzhou in 1985.
Liuzhou Medical College was founded in 195 1 and named as "Guangxi Fourth Medical College". Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2003, it was upgraded to Liuzhou Medical College.
By June 2023, the school had three campuses, namely Wenchang (formerly Donghuan), Liushi and Liudong, and two clinical medical schools, covering an area of nearly 2,800 mu, with a total construction area of more than 860,000 square meters and a per capita teaching and research equipment worth nearly 20,000 yuan.
