Historical development of the school:

The school was established on April 2 1, 1955. Its predecessor was Xi No.2 Industrial School (under the Ministry of Machinery Industry). 1956 was renamed as "Xi' an instrument manufacturing industrial school", and 1960 was upgraded to "Xi' an instrument manufacturing industrial college".

1957, Kunming instrument manufacturing industrial school (founded on the eve of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression 1936) was merged into an instrument manufacturing industrial school. 1963, the Fifth Bureau of the Third Ministry of Machinery Industry adjusted the name of the affiliated school and renamed it "Xi 'an Instrument Industry School".

1965, the school was officially upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed as "Xi University of Technology". 1969, the organizational system of "Xi university of technology" was abolished, and the state-owned 52 18 factory (the second Shaanxi optical instrument factory) was re-established on the original campus.

1978, Xi University of Technology resumed enrollment. From 65438 to 0999, the school completed the adjustment of the subordinate system. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school established the North Institute of Information Engineering (Independent College) of Xi University of Technology. In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, the school was renamed "Xi University of Technology".
