Guilin University of Technology is a university funded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The school originated from Guilin Geological School established in Guangxi by the former Ministry of Heavy Industry 1956. After five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name, it developed.

Among them, 1978 was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology, 1993 was renamed Guilin Institute of Technology, and it was officially renamed Guilin University of Technology in 2009. The enrollment batch of this school is the first batch, so it is a university.
