Wang Xuming:

We believe that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and under the guidance of local education departments, education departments and schools all over the country have made unremitting efforts in earthquake relief, unswervingly grasped the reform and development of household registration education and overcome various difficulties. I think with the support of the national education system, we will certainly win the double victory of earthquake relief and education development.

Ten key tasks put forward by the Ministry of Education will be launched soon, providing you with written reference for your reference. Today, in order to understand the relevant work situation, we invited comrades from relevant departments of the Ministry of Education to introduce the situation to you and answer your questions. First of all, please ask Mr. Gao Hong, deputy director of the Department of Basic Education of the Ministry of Education, to introduce the resumption of classes in primary and secondary schools in disaster areas. Director Gao has just arrived from the disaster area. There must be a lot of feelings in this regard. Please welcome Director Gao.

Gao Hong:

I just got back from the disaster area. There are two main aspects in the work of primary and secondary schools in disaster areas. First, promote the construction of temporary schools, so that primary and secondary school students in disaster areas, especially in the hardest hit areas, can resume classes safely and healthily. Second, strengthen psychological assistance to students in the process of resuming classes. Regarding the construction of temporary schools, within one week after the earthquake, the Ministry of Education sent a working group to the disaster area and the local education administrative department. Under the overall leadership and coordination of the local Party committee and government and the earthquake relief department, and with the support of all sectors of the country, the first batch of tent schools were officially launched on May 19. The first batch of tent schools mainly placed students transferred from the hardest hit areas.

Gao Hong:

Tent schools started one after another according to the overall process of earthquake relief. In this process, it has won wide support from all walks of life. Therefore, a large number of students, especially those transferred from the hardest hit areas, can resume classes safely. In this process, the Ministry of Education distributed free psychological assistance manuals and epidemic prevention manuals to schools that have resumed classes, and we spent them together-for the children in the earthquake-stricken areas. People's Education Publishing House has provided free resumption schools and all tent schools to the disaster areas.

Gao Hong:

Tent schools are still changing from temporary resettlement to transitional resettlement. Where conditions permit, the victims have returned to their hometowns step by step, so the teaching points of tent schools are also changing. Temporary schools are being built in the new planning area where houses are concentrated. Therefore, in general, the construction of temporary schools is promoted according to the overall process of earthquake relief, with special emphasis on safety and hygiene.

Gao Hong:

In the second job, we started psychological assistance. The Ministry of Education entrusts the existing expert steering committee for mental health education in primary and secondary schools and the expert steering committee for school public health to set up an expert working group for psychological assistance in disaster areas in primary and secondary schools to carry out this work. The purpose of our work is to provide systematic psychological assistance to all students and try to make them return to normal state. At the same time, there is another task. In view of the serious psychological trauma caused by the disaster, students should be transferred to relevant professional institutions for psychotherapy.

Gao Hong:

We adhere to several principles. First, we insist on science. Because psychological assistance is a highly professional job, especially for primary and secondary school students, it must be carried out by specially trained professionals under the guidance of qualified experts to avoid causing psychological harm to students again. In particular, as mentioned just now, it is necessary to prevent different people from giving psychological assistance to the same student repeatedly.

The second principle is for everyone. We should let every student know that all kinds of psychology after the earthquake, called psychosomatic manifestations, are normal reflections of abnormal events. It is necessary to understand and accept psychological assistance.

Gao Hong:

The third principle is phased implementation. We will carry out psychological assistance focusing on guidance, identification and sublimation, for example, according to students' reaction after the earthquake.

The fourth principle is grouping. According to the age of the students and the degree of trauma. Special attention should be paid to bereaved and disabled students, and targeted counseling should be given to students who take the college entrance examination today.

Gao Hong:

One of the expert working groups is to formulate professional standards and requirements for entering primary and secondary schools, and at the same time provide educational resources in various ways. According to the overall planning of the local education administrative department, the existing work should be integrated in real time or according to actual needs. One is to train local teachers, the other is to provide on-site guidance for teachers' psychological assistance, and the third is to provide psychological counseling for students who need key help. This work is long-term, and we will implement it according to the students' resumption of classes.

At the same time, we are collecting touching stories such as strength, courage, mutual help and gratitude from primary and secondary school students in the disaster area. We are going to compile a book and distribute it to primary and secondary schools all over the country for free as a vivid teaching material for moral education. Thank you all.

Wang Xuming:

Director Gao, can more than half of the primary and secondary schools in the disaster area resume classes now?

Gao Hong:

As far as we know, nearly half of the hardest hit areas can resume classes. The specific figures are constantly changing. At the same time, a temporary school is being built where the new board house is located. The exact figures should be based on the data released by Sichuan Province. We have yesterday's data, but they are still changing.

Wang Xuming:

Isn't it enough to use tent schools or temporary houses as school buildings?

Gao Hong:

There is still a gap between demand and actual demand. Especially the board house, after it is hot in summer, the school needs this form of board house more.

Wang Xuming:

Yesterday, the General Secretary visited Hebei Board House Factory and asked them to speed up production.

Gao Hong:

More board houses may be needed to ensure the transition period of rebuilding schools.

Wang Xuming:

Next, please ask Mr. Liu Guiqin, Deputy Director of the Department of Ideological and Political Work of the Ministry of Education, to introduce some college students and universities in this regard.

Liu Guiqin:

Good afternoon, friends from the press! I just got back from the disaster area on Saturday night. I am deeply moved, educated and unforgettable by the advanced deeds of college students taking an active part in earthquake relief. Next, I would like to introduce the situation of relevant parties.

After the catastrophic geological disaster in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, the majority of college students attached great importance to the disaster area, acted in time, gave their love, vigorously carried forward the spirit of "one party is in trouble, and all parties support", actively participated in earthquake relief, showing the brand-new mental outlook of contemporary college students, and emerged a number of advanced collectives and individuals. I will introduce it at four points.

Liu Guiqin:

First, college students in disaster areas actively participated in earthquake relief. After the devastating earthquake, college students in Mianyang, Deyang, Chengdu and other disaster areas, under the leadership of their respective university party committees and governments, calmly faced the disaster areas and took an active part in earthquake relief work. First, stick to your post and fight in the front line of earthquake relief. On the night of the earthquake, according to the order of Chengdu Military Region, the first batch of 30 national defense students from Southwest Jiaotong University quickly went to Dujiangyan City, which was seriously affected by the earthquake, for earthquake relief. There is a Tibetan student in the school who is also a national defense student. His name is Guo Dongyang. His home is in Dujiangyan. In the face of the disaster relief task and the buried relatives, he still chose the former. Knowing that his grandparents were killed in the earthquake, he fought back tears and continued to devote himself to the hard disaster relief work. After learning that Guo Dongyang's relatives were killed and his family still stuck to their posts after the disaster, the school leaders sent the living allowance to Guo Dongyang, and he immediately donated 2,000 yuan to the disaster area.

Liu Guiqin:

Under the unified organization of the school, the students of Civil Aviation Flight Academy of China gave full play to their professional expertise. Four days after the disaster, 239 disaster relief flights were guaranteed, and relief materials10.33 billion tons were put in, and more than 30 wounded people were transported urgently.

The second is to help each other and actively carry out disaster relief assistance activities. After the earthquake, 23 student volunteers from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China went to Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital to assist medical staff in their work. At the same time, the whole school students actively participate in activities with the theme of contributing their strength to their loved ones. Part of the campus of Xiba University is close to the earthquake-stricken area, only 75 kilometers away from Yingxiu Town, the epicenter. In the case of school buildings being damaged and serious casualties, Xiba University students actively carried out earthquake-resistant self-help and resumed normal study and life order as soon as possible. On the other hand, actively organize youth volunteer service teams to carry out rescue services in the hardest hit areas. In order to transfer the relief materials to the victims as soon as possible, more than 700 college student volunteers ran to the relief materials transfer station in Aba disaster area, working tirelessly and continuously, greatly improving the efficiency of material transportation in the transfer station.
