The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Xiamen University was established in 2000, relying on the Environmental Science Research Center, which originated from the environmental science research and discipline construction of Xiamen University for more than 20 years. Xiamen University currently has the State Key Laboratory of Offshore Marine Environmental Science, the postdoctoral mobile station of environmental science and engineering, and the first-class doctoral program of environmental science and engineering, and has established a complete bachelor-master-doctor-postdoctoral teaching and research personnel training system in the field of environmental science.
The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering has a solid foundation in teaching and research and a reasonable faculty structure. There are nearly 67 faculty members, including 20 professors, 2 associate professors and 2 doctoral supervisors. Three of them are winners of the National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and two are distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Project. After years of construction and development, especially the construction of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project", the department has relatively complete teaching and research equipment. There are laboratories for environmental monitoring and analysis, environmental toxicology, environmental ecology, environmental engineering, remote sensing and GIS, marine biogeochemistry and marine microecology, which can be used for teaching and scientific research. At present, the department enrolls undergraduate students majoring in environmental science, master students and doctoral students majoring in environmental science, environmental engineering and environmental management.
The department has a good tradition of subsidizing students, providing grants to poor students through various channels, and never letting students drop out of school because of poverty.
Environmental science majors train specialized personnel engaged in scientific research and teaching of environmental management, pollution prevention and environmental science-related majors. The teaching process pays attention to the cultivation of interdisciplinary and comprehensive ability, and pays attention to the cultivation of professional experimental skills and social practice ability; It emphasizes that students have systematic theoretical knowledge and experimental skills in environmental science and its related disciplines (mathematics, chemistry, biology, etc.). ), understand the frontier research fields and development prospects of environmental science. The employment scope of graduates includes government departments related to environmental protection at all levels (environmental monitoring, planning, management, education and administrative law enforcement), scientific research institutes (research and development, teaching, consulting and publicity), industrial enterprises, agriculture and other industrial units; Graduates with excellent grades can be recommended to study for a master's degree without examination.
