The Physics Department of Fudan University was founded in 1952. Its predecessor was the Physics Group of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Fudan University, which was established in 1942 Chongqing. It has a history of more than 60 years. In the national department adjustment from 65438 to 0952, the former physics departments of Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Hujiang University and Datong University merged to form the new physics department of Fudan University.

The Physics Department of Fudan University now has a national first-class key discipline (covering all two disciplines), a national double-class construction discipline and a Shanghai peak discipline. 1993 has become a national training base for scientific research and teaching personnel, and it is the first unit in China to set up doctoral programs and postdoctoral mobile stations. It is listed as the national "2 1 1 Project" key construction discipline and the most important scientific and technological innovation platform of the national "985 Project".

The State Key Laboratory of Applied Surface Physics, the Key Laboratory of Materials Computing Science and the Key Laboratory of Micro-nano Photonic Structure have been established to manage and operate the school-level micro-nano processing platform.

The department enrolls about 100 undergraduate students and 40 master students every year, and the number of doctoral students is unlimited. Since 1977, * * * has graduated about 2,800 undergraduates, 740 masters and 220 doctors. The research results of master students and doctoral students have reached the level published in international SCI journals.
