Recently, an international team of astronomers made up of Polish scientists from Copernicus University in Torun, Agallon University in Cracow and National Nuclear Research Center drew the most accurate map of the universe in history. To this end, scientists use a low-frequency telescope array (LOFAR) covering the whole of Europe. Thanks to the LOFAR network, scientists can accurately observe a large area of the sky and detect tens of thousands of galaxies similar to the Milky Way. Scientists combined radio images obtained from more than 70,000 antennas that make up LOFAR to create a single image of the whole universe.

The unique data set obtained through LOFAR enables scientists to conduct many other scientific researches, such as radio radiation generated by the collision of a large number of black holes or giant galaxy clusters. Only by using the latest mathematical discoveries in the field of data analysis can scientists process such a large amount of information and analyze the obtained images. In the scientific journal Astronomy and Astrophysics, the research work of the international team of astronomers, the method of making maps and the first batch of scientific achievements are introduced in detail.
