It is a non-profit public hospital and is included in the affiliated hospital system directly under Sun Yat-sen University. According to the development orientation of Shenzhen with the largest scale, the first diagnosis and treatment technology and many high-level medical talents, the hospital will be built into a regional medical and health center, a public health disaster rescue center and a national medical and health center in Shenzhen.

The hospital was built in multiple phases, with 800 beds in one phase, and officially opened on July 1 day, 2065438. The newly planned second-phase project covers an area of155,200 square meters, with a total construction area of 770,000 square meters and 3,200 planned beds. When it is fully opened in 2025, the number of beds in the seventh hospital of CUHK will reach 4,000, with a total construction area of 908,000 square meters.
