Colleges with the word "university" in their names are generally first-class institutions in China. National 2 1 1 key universities of engineering are all named after "universities" except a few art colleges. Some universities have their own subordinate departments. For example, Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences is a subordinate department of Peking University. Most colleges do not have their own subordinate departments.
However, both universities and junior colleges are undergraduate courses, and the university diploma will not be marked with one or two, only undergraduate courses or junior colleges, so there is no difference between the two diplomas.
The differences between universities and colleges are as follows:
1, the school scale is different.
The number of full-time college students should be more than 8,000, and the number of graduate students should not be less than 5% of the total number of full-time students. The number of full-time students in colleges and universities should be more than 5000, and there is no rigid requirement for the number of graduate students. In fact, this is because many colleges have no graduate students. If people in this college want to continue their graduate studies, they can only apply for graduate students from other schools, which is relatively more difficult.
2. The number of disciplines is different.
According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education, universities should have more than three disciplines as their main subjects. The college should have 1 or above as the main subject. The more subjects there are, the more choices students have.
3. The number of specialties is different.
China's subject catalogue is divided into subject categories, first-class subjects and two disciplines. A university must have at least three disciplines, with three first-class disciplines under each discipline and several two disciplines under the first-class discipline.
4. Different teaching staff.
Although all colleges and universities are undergraduate, the requirements for teachers are different due to different school standards. Due to the large scale of running a university and offering postgraduate programs, the requirements for teachers' quality are higher. The proportion of full-time teachers with postgraduate education in general colleges and universities should reach more than 50%. The proportion of full-time teachers with doctoral degrees in the total number of full-time teachers should generally reach more than 20%; The number of full-time teachers in senior professional and technical positions should generally be no less than 400, and the number of full-time teachers in full-time positions should generally be no less than 100.
