Yichun University is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning. It is the first experimental school of the Artificial Intelligence College Project of the Ministry of Education, the "100 million project" school of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of pilot universities for transformation and development in Jiangxi Province, and the demonstration base for innovation and entrepreneurship of college students in Jiangxi Province.

1958 In April, in order to concentrate on running universities in the region, the CPC Yichun Municipal Committee and Administrative Office decided to merge Nanchang Normal College, Medical College, Physical Education College, Pingxiang Normal College, Yichun County University and Fengcheng County University to form Yichun University. Approved by the provincial party Committee, it was formally established in June 1958, with five majors: Chinese, Mathematics, Biochemistry, Medicine and Physical Education.
