Shandong University, located in Jinan City, Shandong Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). The sub-ministerial system directly under the central government ranks among the world-class universities (Class A), 985 Project, 2 1 1 Project, and has been selected into 201Plan, Everest Plan, Strong Foundation Plan,1Plan and Excellent Engineer Education and Training successively.

Shandong University is the birthplace of modern higher education in China. The main body is Shandong University Hall founded by 190 1, which is the second government university founded by China after Shi Jing University Hall. Its medical discipline originated from 1864, which opened modern higher medical education in China.
