The Department of Education of Beijing Normal University resumed enrolling full-time undergraduates from 1978, and opened a master's degree program in 1982 and a doctoral degree program in 1993 respectively. It is the earliest preschool education major in China with the right to confer master's and doctor's degrees.

Beijing Normal University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Beijing. It ranks among the first ten key universities in the national "Double First Class", "985 Project", "21Project", "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan".
