International Physiology Competition for Clinical Medical Students

The International Medical College Physiology Competition (IMSPQ) is one of the most influential international medical competitions in Asia. The students majoring in clinical medicine in our school have a positive learning attitude and demand for IMSPQ and Chinese mainland warm-up match, which is a good start.

Based on the student-centered education concept, from the students' point of view and actual needs, this paper deeply understands the current situation of clinical medical students' cognition of international physiology competition, and promotes the reform of physiology English teaching.

The internationalization of education is accelerating day by day, and both teachers and students are trying to find suitable ways to learn professional English. The International Medical College Physiology Competition (IMSPQ) is one of the most influential international medical competitions in Asia. It has been held once a year since 2003. 1 ~ 13 was initiated and hosted by the Medical College of the University of Malaya [1-3]. 20 16 the 1st 14 session will be held at the motor university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on July 29th and 30th. April 23rd, 20 16, entrusted by the Organizing Committee of the International Physiology Competition, the second warm-up match of the Chinese mainland International Physiology Competition was hosted by Xuzhou Medical University. * * * National1/universities 14 teams from Anhui Medical University, Second Military Medical University, Fourth Military Medical University, Guangxi Medical University, Jiangsu University, Kunming Medical University, Three Gorges University, Sichuan University, Tongji University, Central South University and Xuzhou Medical University. Demand is the driving force of all behaviors, and understanding students' needs can promote the development of education [4-5]. It is very necessary to know the students' cognition of IMSPQ and Chinese mainland warm-up match, so the author first conducted a questionnaire survey and analysis on the current cognition.

1 objects and methods

1. 1 interviewee

Taking clinical medical students of grade 20 14 of Kunming Medical University as the research object, 693 questionnaires were distributed, and 567 questionnaires were finally valid, with an effective rate of 8 1.82%.

1.2 research methods

The main research method is questionnaire, which is designed by ourselves? Questionnaire of International Physiology Competition (and cognition of Chinese mainland warm-up match)? . The content of the survey involves students' cognitive status, motivation, course content, implementation and other needs, all of which are in the form of closed questions, including single and indefinite multiple-choice questions.

Use Excel to establish a database and make relevant data statistics.

2 Results and discussion

2. 1 Cognition of International Physiology Competition (and Chinese mainland Warm-up Competition)

Among 567 valid questionnaires, 12.35%(70/567) students participated in the school physiology competition, and 87.65% (497/567) students did not participate. The reason why only a few students participate in the competition may be related to the number of participating indicators. The school physiology competition adopts the principle of allocating the number of places according to the class selection. The selection examination of the International Physiology Competition is a public examination in our school. According to the principle of students' voluntariness, only 15. 17%(86/567) of the respondents took part in the selection competition.

When asked if they knew about the Chinese mainland International Physiology Competition and the warm-up of the International Physiology Competition, as many as 94%(533/567) students chose never to touch or only have a rough understanding. Considering the high cost associated with the competition, we set the option that the cost of participating in the international physiology competition (as well as the warm-up competition in Chinese mainland) will be borne by the school. Will you attend? At this time, 59.44%(337/567) students chose to participate. From the analysis of the above three options, we can see that students agree with this new form of competition and learning, but because they don't know about the competition, the number of participants is small at present. It is suggested to strengthen publicity in the future to let more students know.

Reference conditions for competition selection: 7.94% students choose grade ranking, 23. 10% students choose course grade ranking, 55.20% students choose examination grade according to competition, 12. 17% students choose English grade and others. When it comes to the selection method, 80.25% of the students agree with the closed-book exam. As for the conditions for choosing English: 15.70% of the students have chosen CET-4, 57.85% think they should pass CET-6, and 13.76% think they can refer to other things (such as TOEFL scores, etc. ), and 12.70% students choose it doesn't matter. It can be seen that most students are in favor of a more targeted competition selection examination, with Band 6 as the selection reference condition.

Course offering mode: 5.47% students choose compulsory courses, 38.80% students think elective courses, and 55.73% students choose remedial classes for training. Specific training hours: 10.4 1% students choose 2 hours/week, 36.33% students choose 4 hours/week, 29.45% students choose 6 hours/week, and 23.63% students choose more than 6 hours/week. It is suggested that students prefer flexible forms of counseling, and the number of class hours per week should not be too much.

2.2 International Physiology Competition (and Chinese mainland Warm-up Competition) Publicity Methods

At present, the main ways for students to understand the competition are as follows: 67.90% students choose to hold competition publicity in school, 465,438+0.27% students choose classmates and friends to participate in the competition, 36.68% students choose to communicate with classmates and friends, and 65,438+06.40% students choose media such as the Internet. Effective ways to publicize the competition: 75.84% students choose campus bulletin boards, campus radio and leaflets, 29.45% students choose school journals and campus magazines, 45.86% students choose school websites, 38. 10% students choose student unions and societies, and 37.74% students choose to distribute competition souvenirs. The results of the school's support for the competition show that 14.29% students think it is important, 58.55% students think it is important, 25.04% students think it is not important and 3.35% students think it is not important at all. From the analysis of the above options, it can be seen that at present, students think that the school attaches great importance to this competition, mainly through campus publicity to understand this competition, and most students also agree with the way of campus publicity. It is suggested to further strengthen publicity in the future, because publicity directly determines participation.

2.3 Motivation to Participate in International Physiology Competition (and Chinese mainland Warm-up Competition)

About the function options of the competition: 67.90% students choose to stimulate fighting spirit and competitive consciousness, 56.79% students choose to lead students from passive learning to active learning, 59.9 1% students choose to provide a platform for talent selection and training, 43.438+0% students choose to promote the improvement of teaching quality, and only 4.94% students choose the competition to have little effect. As for the motivation option of participating in the competition, 50.62% students think that the competition will improve their comprehensive professional ability, 63.67% students choose to increase their practical experience, 59.79% students think that they should exercise their psychological quality, 52.73% students think that they should cultivate their self-study ability, and 28.57% students choose to lay the foundation for finding a good job and employment. Reasons for not taking part in the competition: 23.28% students chose not to be interested in such activities, 28.40% students thought that time was not allowed, 76.90% students chose their own knowledge base and ability limitation, 50.79% students had no confidence in themselves, and only 10.93% students chose schools to support such activities. From the analysis of the above options, it can be seen that most clinical medical students are interested in the competition and have a high evaluation of its role. The reason for their little participation is more due to their own and professional knowledge limitations. It is suggested to strengthen the training of relevant professional knowledge and guide students to establish professional self-confidence.

In a word, the students majoring in clinical medicine in our school have a positive attitude and demand for IMSPQ and Chinese mainland warm-up match, which is a good start. Therefore, in the future teaching, we should strengthen publicity and training through various channels, take the competition as a platform, improve students' English learning ability, and finally improve the teaching efficiency of physiology.
