Recently, a video of the opening ceremony of freshmen in Lymton College of Jilin University was circulated on the Internet. To my surprise, universities still accept mobile phones? I think many people will have the same doubts and surprises as me. Yes, with the university management becoming more and more relaxed, students have long been free to use their mobile phones and fully respect their personal arrangements. When I was an undergraduate, I was never told by my teacher not to play with mobile phones. Even if I sit in the front row in class, I won't be told by the teacher when I take out my mobile phone. In fact, everyone understands the truth. They are all college students and adults, and teachers are not as strict as middle schools.
So why did Lymton College of Jilin University do this? I think there are two reasons. First of all, getting a mobile phone can ensure the order of the opening ceremony. Because so many people play mobile phones, even if the host asks for silence, someone will always forget or ignore it. Once the mobile phone rings, it will inevitably affect the order of the venue. Therefore, students can be urged to put their mobile phones into silent mode when they receive them. At the same time, not allowing students to play mobile phones can also make students more focused in the ceremony and make the opening ceremony look more serious. After all, it is more or less disrespectful for others to bow their heads and play with their mobile phones during their speeches. Second, the school management is strict, and students are expected to be self-disciplined. As we all know, mobile phones are a necessity for contemporary college students, and most people will rely on them. Therefore, taking away the mobile phone can be regarded as the first lesson. The school hopes to restrain students' self-discipline, restrain their desires and do what they should do at the right time through rules.
In fact, receiving mobile phones is controversial. From the perspective of teaching and educating people, the starting point of the school is good, and I hope that students will not be occupied by mobile phones for too much time. Even if some people think that this practice is not humane enough, the most important thing for college students is to tell themselves to cherish time and be strict with themselves through this incident. If every student can learn proper entertainment, there is no need for schools to accept mobile phones.
