Four teachers in the field of earth science reported the results of paleoceanography, which spanned a long time. Xu, a special researcher of Chenghuan College, used the organic geochemical indicators in marine sediments to reconstruct the seawater temperature changes in the southern part of Okinawa Trough in recent 2700 years. By analyzing the elemental characteristics of fossil micro-shells, Associate Professor Huang Baoqi of the Institute of Ground and Air Research studied the changes of the bottom water properties in the western Pacific since 4.2 million years. Liu Jianbo, an associate professor, and Shen Bing, a special researcher, showed the achievements of studying the paleoceanic characteristics during the geological period of 400-600 million years ago through sedimentology and geochemical analysis, and deeply discussed the transformation of carbonate sedimentary system in early Ordovician in South China and the oxidation process of paleoceanic in Idikala Ice Age.
The study of the South China Sea and the waters around China also aroused the keen interest of the teachers and students attending the meeting. Professor Hu Min from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, through testing the samples collected in the sea, island and air, and collecting and analyzing the relevant data, discussed the cross-border transport of air pollutants in East Asia and their mutual influence, and put forward the countermeasures. Fu Zongmei, a special researcher in the School of Physics, focused on the exchange process of organic matter at the air-ocean interface and put forward a new viewpoint of three-layer membrane model. Professor Wu Xiaolei from the Institute of Technology introduced the results of microbial analysis of surface and columnar sediment samples in the South China Sea in recent years. He hopes to discuss the development and utilization of marine microbial resources, the biogeographic distribution of marine microorganisms and their role in geochemical cycle with experts from other disciplines. Professor Lin from the College of Pharmacy of the Ministry of Health applied the diversity of benthic metabolites in the South China Sea to the study of anti-tumor and anti-AIDS activities, and made exciting progress. Professor Shen Xinghai from the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering has brought you the research results of the design and synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers. The potential application of this research results in the extraction of uranium from seawater is of great significance to the development of marine resources. Professor Zhou Liping reported the latest experimental results of his research team's cooperation with Professor Liu Kexin from the School of Physics to study the evolution of deep-sea processes in the South China Sea, and demonstrated the potential of tracing the deep-sea circulation movement in the South China Sea with radioactive carbon isotopes. Based on years of research, Professor Xu of Chenghuan College put forward his own views on the impact of high-intensity coastal development on the ocean and its countermeasures. Professor Hongyun Li of Law School combed the hot topic of how to solve the Diaoyu Islands issue from the aspects of international law and diplomatic rules, which aroused the strong interest of the teachers and students attending the meeting.
