School of Information Science and Technology (referred to as School of Information) was established in May 2000. Its predecessor was the Electronic Engineering Department rebuilt by 1982, the Optical Department established by 1954 and the Computer Department established by 1975. It turns out that there are six departments and two hospitals under the college. In May 2008, according to the needs of discipline construction and development, the college was reorganized into four departments and one hospital, with electronic engineering department, optical science and engineering department, communication science and engineering department, microelectronics department and microelectronics research institute. On February 22, 2008, according to the decision of the school, the Department of Light Source and Lighting Engineering of Fudan University (referred to as "the Department of Electric Light Source") was merged into the School of Information. In April of 20 13, according to the needs of discipline construction and development, the college was further adjusted into four departments and one center, namely, electronic engineering department, optical science and engineering department, communication science and engineering department, light source and lighting engineering department and micro-nano system center. The existing pattern of the college has basically taken shape.

After half a century and several generations' efforts, all departments and disciplines of the School of Information have made remarkable achievements in discipline construction, personnel training, scientific research and applied technology development, and developed into a scientific research and personnel training base of electronic information technology with certain influence in the world and a significant position in China. The breadth of research fields, the intersection of science and engineering disciplines and the optimal combination of resources also make it the cradle of national excellent electronic information technology engineering talents, the frontier of scientific research, an important base for knowledge innovation and an important bridge and window for international exchange.

As a research-oriented university, School of Information adheres to internationalization, constantly enhances the international influence of various disciplines, enhances international competitiveness, and gradually forms its own characteristics in personnel training and scientific research, laying a solid foundation for cultivating and absorbing senior research talents at home and abroad and building School of Information into a research-oriented university. It is opening up a new world with a brand-new mental outlook and striding forward towards the grand goal of building a research-oriented college into a world-class university.
